Steven J. Brown |  Managing Partner: Steven was born and raised in southern California. With a background in finance from the University of Denver, he’s spent considerable time helping companies improve performance. After serving in the Marine Corps, he began personally investing in businesses and real estate, which led to working with a boutique investment firm in Colorado. After purchasing a company, Steven joined the business in an operating role, where he helped scale the company from $38mm to $60mm in revenue. As the SVP and ultimately the COO of the company, he oversaw the addition of several new initiatives to grow the company while adding systems and processes.  
Christopher Alcalde  |  Managing Partner: Chris emigrated, at an early age, from Lima, Peru to the U.S. While attending the University of Colorado, he founded and operated a business to help offset college tuition. After graduating, Chris applied his skills in marketing and entrepreneurship with a start-up where he developed and implemented marketing and sales strategies. The tactics Chris employed enabled the start-up to become one of Inc.’s 500 fastest growing companies. Later, intrigued by the world of finance, Chris joined 2 of Colorado’s most successful investment firms, where his interest in finance and real estate has grown in-hand with his expertise in marketing and sales.  
We are active investors, which for us means we are highly engaged from the first stage of an investment through the process of building out systems and proceedures.
Before an investment, we thoroughly review the opportunity with a particular focus on industry dynamics, the company’s relative competitive position and management’s skills and plans for the future.  We feel that rigorous due diligence during this period is crucial to the ultimate success of an investment.  Our early work enables us to become versed in the key issues and opportunities facing management and more effective partners going forward.
Once we have made an investment, we deepen our relationship with management, offering them our skills and resources to help ensure that well-grounded decisions are made.  We provide support and interaction suited to the circumstance, which vary from company to company.  
 
Our goal is to assist management, acting as an informed sounding board or engaging as needed with our own team or specialized external resources.  In all cases, we are focused on trying to help make the most appropriate strategic decisions to ensure long-term success of the company.

We generally seek companies that are strong financial performers, operated by highly motivated management teams that want to own, as well as run, their businesses. Our preference is for companies located in industries with favorable dynamics for sustainable earnings growth—companies that have resisted down cycles, and which demonstrate a compelling potential to improve margins and increase shareholder value.

INVESTMENT CRITERIA

SIMPLE

Businesses are not created equal. While some companies are very complex, others are quite simple. We're looking for the latter, non-complex businesses we can thoroughly evaluate and ultimately operate.

SCALABLE

ACP is looking for investment opportunities where we can stimulate substantial growth and add value. To maximize returns to our investors, we actively participate with management to craft and execute high-yield strategies.

NON-CYCLICAL

We’re looking for investment opportunities that are not tied to the swings of the economy. For an example, a company primarily providing construction services for new builds would not be of interest. However, a similar company, providing services for landlords or tenants of real estate, may be of great interest.
